Why isn't my pc booting up?

                                Computer boot problems

When you press the power button what happens?. Do you hear anything? If you hear nothing and nothing at all happens then first thing to do is check the power supply . I wouldn't advise you to open the power supply unless you know what your doing .Inside is a 3 amp fuse. In most cases if this is replaced the computer will boot up. However because the fuse blew maybe there is a problem with the power supply itself .In this case get a replacement. check the watts on the back of your original power supply ,take it to a computer shop and buy another with the same watts ,Usually this will be something like 350 watts or if its a new p.c a 450watts . So you replace the power supply switch it on and still nothing. Is your processor seated correctly? Is the fan connected to the motherboard ?Is the fan working? Check the memory to. Swap out a memory chip does this resolve the problem? In most cases your computer would have started by now. Some computers will start to boot but hen will display a screen saying " completing updating files...." it then just hangs .Or it starts to go into windows but halts before the main screen. If this happens then this is quite a big problem as it looks like your boot up files i.e msdos.sys, io.sys , config.sys, autoexec.bat.sys or some other file is corrupted. Or you may be given several options like safe mode or Last configuration that worked, You try them all but still nothing happens. If you reload windows this may fix the problem .If you cant reload windows because your bios doesn't recognise your hard drive then you hard drive has probably had it. If you have important information on the drive then call a company like www.data-restore.co.uk.
