Laptop not booting up or starting. |
When a Laptop
crashes or halts and switches itself off , this fault is caused by
a number of different reasons. One could be the physical memory or
ram on the motherboard . If you take out your ram and replace it with
another chip running at the same speed this may fix the error. However
there are other reasons for crashes. One is the dreaded blue screen
often called the blue screen of death. This blue screen has terrified
many I.T techies , not because it is a severe problem but mainly because
there are so many reasons why you get a blue screen . It could just
be that the software i.e. windows is not installed correctly or it
could be that your windows cd is scratched when you are installing
it .It could mean you have a virus. It could be your memory (RAM)
. Maybe your hard drive has had its day . The usual scenario is to
work it out by the golden rule............ . Is this caused by hardware
or software ? Consider re-installing windows with a good CD. If after
windows is installed and you still get the blue screen then its the
hardware. Swop out the physical memory replace it with a new chip
. Did this work ? If not maybe your hard drive has a problem. If your
partitioning the disk always do a slow format .Using the quick format
of ntfs often does not remove viruses. It could be that all your drivers
are not installed correctly check your graphics card is seated correctly
and check that all drivers are installed in device manager . Finally
check your motherboard .

Viruses
Most computer problems are caused by programs loading into the start
up files.
Learn about msconfig from a google
search it will fix most problems. |
You would think that as an engineer,
replacing a motherboard would be harder than fixing a laptop with
a virus. How wrong you could be! Viruses are generally our biggest
headaches and there are hundreds of thousands of them. We can
repair a laptop in 45 minutes but viruses sometimes take up to 8
hours to fix, especially if we have to back up data.
Picture the scene...here I am waiting
for a callout to fix a laptop. The phone rings and someone calls
to say they have the Natas32.worm, can you fix it? Hmmmm....can I
fix it? Well, chances are I have never even heard of it. But hold
on, I am a laptop engineer, surely I can fix anything on a laptop!
Well in this case you have to be like a doctor and prescribe antibiotics.
Yes, I can remove the virus but this usually means reinstalling the
entire operating system. Try this first - go to
start-programs-accessories-system tools-system restore and set your
computer back to when it was working fine.I have also found that
many anti-virus applications are a waste of money. You buy software
and install it, it scans the system and promptly informs you there
is no virus, when clearly this is not the case. You do the internet
updates and the virus is still there, what a nightmare!. The
helpline is expensively unhelpful and in there defence you will
never be totally up-to-date with viruses as so many come out every
day. We have found Avast
antivirus very good. If you think you may have a virus try to back
up your files as soon as possible. Give us a call for free advice.
