| Modems A modem is a piece of hardware that connects your computer to the internet . Unlike other hardware devices such as graphic cards and sound cards modems have a tendency to just stop working. Often though the problem is a simple software problem . Sometimes windows by default tells the modem not to dial a connection . This can be resolved by going to the control panel . Then select internet options , then connections, Make sure that never dial a connection is not checked. Listen When you click your icon to connect to the internet can you hear it dialling? If it dials But fails to connect check your username and password .A common problem is that you may have accidentally typed your username or password in capital letters. These should always be lower case. If your modem does not dial at all then check to see if the drivers for your modem are installed correctly. Drivers How do you know if the drivers are installed? First got to the control panel . Then system . Then device manager . In the list look for pci communication device , If there is an exclamation mark next to this device then you need to reinstall your modem . The pci communication device is just another word for your modem. Your modem is installed correctly when there are no exclamation marks next to this advice. You may need the CD that came with your computer in order to reinstall your modem . This is a bit technical so give us a call for some free advice on how to install this.
