One of the most common calls we receive is for backlight problems. You may look at your screen and it looks as if the light has gone out, but you can still see the image. Sometimes you have to look very carefully at the screen, you may just detect a faint image. Backlight problem? If you have then don't worry its not your screen its just your inverter. When you plug an external monitor to the back of your laptop you will see a perfect screen displayed externally. ( hopefully your onboard graphics card is not broken.) Has your backlight suddenly gone out ? Has the tube just died?. The chances are the backlight is working perfectly but your inverter is not working correctly. Backlights rarely have problems, Inverters just die quite often. In some cases your tube may need changing. Look at the image below
If you shine a light or a torch on your screen you may see the image on your screen and it may be very dim or faint. Believe it or not but this is actually good news. At least your laptop can be repaired. If the laptop boots up but there is no image at all, this is often a more severe problem.
We do not encourage the repair of inverters as if you are not sure of all the parts and chips on an inverter you may cause more problems than you started with. An inverter converts 19 volts into an amazing 630 volts !! . If you received and electric shock from a 240 volt wall socket you know how much it hurts... imagine receiving a shock of 630 volts - beware inverters can kill. This is why its best to leave an inverter repair to our qualified engineers who have decades of experience in repairing inverters.
