Why data gets lost?

Data on a hard drive is just like data on a cd. However the data stored on a hard disk is squeezed into a much smaller space. A laptop hard disk can hold up to 1terabytes of data. ( highest at time of this study). That is the equivalent of over 1000 cd roms. If you do not back up your data one day you will lose it. If a laptop is dropped or the hard disk jolted the arm inside the hard disk that moves across and reads the data from the platter ( see image above) the data on the disk can get damaged or the arm just breaks and refuses to move across the disk and it can read nothing. In the image on the left the motherboard inside the drive has a problem. We just change the motherboard and bingo , we can read your files. Hard drives usually last around 4 years. We have known hard drives to last 8 years this is usually when the laptop is never moved and has been kept nice and cool.

How can you back up Data?

The best software or program we have seen to back up data is Nero. This program makes saving data very easy. You can back up your data or save your data onto an external hard drive. USB thumb drives can also be used to save your files. The best way to save data is to burn it onto a DVD. Then put the DVD in a case and put it somewhere safe. The data which is saved is only as good or as safe as the hardware it is saved onto. If you place a DVD in hot conditions it can get ruined. Back up your data every fortnight and usually you will be safe.                                                        

 How can you recover data if my hard drive wont boot to windows

Just because your hard drive or laptop wont boot to windows this does not mean the data cannot be accessed. Often the boot up files can be corrupt there are a number of files that load when windows boots up. These files can get corrupted but the hard drive will still spin and data can be accessed externally. In other words your hard drive can be removed from your laptop and be professionally spun on a server to remove the files you need.
